I met a young girl in Brazil who has visited Amazon forests many time sand she narrated that how these precious rain forests are threatened. The Amazon represents over half of the planet's remaining rain forests, and it comprises the largest and most species-rich tract of tropical rainforest in the world. This region includes territory belonging to nine nations. The majority of the forest is contained within Brazil, with 60% of the rainforest, followed by Peru with 13%, Colombia with 10%, and with minor amounts in, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana.

Mody Institute of Technology and Science, Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan and Scientoons

I had the honour of delivering my 818th lecture on "Nanotechnology: Small is Beautiful" in the Mody Institute of Technology and Science, Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan. Lecture was attended by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of MITS, Prof N.V.Subba Raddy, faculty member's MITS and few hundred girls. I was amazed to see the green, very clean and such a marvelous campus. A 140 km drive on the Jaipur-Bikaner highway (NH-11) from Jaipur takes you to the magnificent campus of the institute. It is spread over an area of over 265 acres full of greenery with a wide variety of trees and other plants, especially developed for the purpose. Drive through any of the three massive gates, you will usher yourself into a gigantic campus with 69 buildings covering an area of approximately 12 lacs sq. ft. , connected by approximately 10 km internal roads , including huge academic and other buildings, hostels with spacious corridors, big terraces and luxurious rooms brushed with the fragrance of lush green gardens with sprawling lawns harbouring delightful trees and forming a picturesque setting. The whole campus has been beautifully landscaped with waterfalls, fountains, orchards, lawns, forests and a water body, literally transforming the Shekhawati belt of the Thar desert into an oasis. In a latest survey 89 species of birds ( certified by ornithologist from World Wildlife Fund-Indis) and 16 species of butterflies (certified by lepidopterists from World Wildlife Fund -India) have been identified. The campus has its own power house and captive sewage treatment plant. No ground water is lost and all irrigation is carried out with recycled water. Its rural location is quiet and peaceful, indeed ideal for academic pursuits, close to the nature in its totally pollution-free environment and far away from the hustle-n-bustle of city pollution.
There is a very neat and clean big canteen in which 1800 girls can take lunch at a time. One can also visit Tapovan which has a Ram Seeta Temple and a place for hawan and meditation. You can also see many pigeons there and also beautiful peacocks may be seen dancing nearby. I can only say that after visiting I felt "Proud to be Indian". Hats off to Sri R.P.Mody, founder of this great Institute for girls in Rajasthan which is now a deemed University.

Jalsansthan Employees are torturing residents in Lucknow
